A home inventory that actually finds things

Find anything you own.

Ferret is a home inventory app for your whole household: where everything is, what it's worth, and what it needs. Photograph things, scan their barcodes, then search the way you think — or just ask.

No sign-up: the demo opens a sample house you can change as you like.

Search

Search the way you think.

Type something to cut wood and Ferret finds the circular saw — even though those words aren't in its name — and reminds you that Sam next door still has it.

  • Ask Ferret answers questions from your own inventory, and shows where the answer came from.
  • Finds a word on a receipt, a serial number, or a line in a manual.
  • Scan a barcode or one of Ferret's QR labels to jump straight to it.

Everything in one place

More than a list of things.

Ferret looks after what you own, not just where it is.

Add things fast

Photograph them, scan a barcode, or walk through a room snapping as you go. Ferret reads the photos and suggests the details — you tap to keep them.

Know where everything is

Properties, rooms, shelves and boxes. Print QR labels for boxes, then scan one to see what's inside.

Warranties and claims

See what's still covered, get told before a warranty ends, and keep track of a claim from filed to fixed.

Maintenance, remembered

Furnace filters, water heaters, smoke alarms — reminders on your calendar, your phone, or the chat apps you already use. Upload a manual and Ferret suggests the schedule.

Stock and a shopping list

Scan to count coffee, filters and batteries. Anything running low lands on the shopping list.

Lent and borrowed

Remember who has your ladder. Ferret can even email them a friendly reminder to bring it back.

Recall alerts

Ferret checks the brands you own against U.S. product recalls and tells you when something you have is on one.

For the whole household

Invite your family. Owners, admins, members and read-only viewers — everyone sees the same things.

Bring what you have

Import a spreadsheet, your order history, or the devices from Home Assistant. Every import can be undone.

Every detail

The answer is already there.

Each thing keeps its own record: where it lives, the serial number, what you paid, the receipt and manual, its warranty, its maintenance, and a history of everything that changed.

  • Receipts and manuals are read for you, so their words are searchable.
  • “Moved Drill: Garage → Basement” — the history says who changed what, and when.
  • Works offline on your phone: add things in the basement and they sync when you're back.

Insurance

Ready the day you need it.

After a fire, a flood or a break-in, nobody remembers everything they owned. Ferret already has the list — what it was, what it was worth, and the photos and receipts to prove it.

  • Print it or save a PDF, or download a spreadsheet for your insurer.
  • Share a read-only link that turns itself off after a week, a month or three.
  • Coverage check: see when your jewelry or electronics are worth more than your policy covers.

Private by design

Your things stay yours.

A list of everything you own is a list worth protecting. Ferret is built to run on a computer in your home.

On your own server

Your inventory lives at home, not in someone else's cloud.

Files encrypted

Photos, receipts and manuals are encrypted at rest, with a key for each household.

AI you control

Every AI feature is optional and runs on your own models. Its suggestions wait for your tap.

Locked down

Passkeys, two-step sign-in, alerts about new sign-ins, and nightly backups that check themselves.

Works with Claude.

Connect Claude to Ferret and ask it to add a receipt, find the spare keys, or plan this weekend's maintenance. Ferret speaks MCP, and has a documented REST API for your own scripts.

Coming soon

Run Ferret at home.

Ferret is in private testing. When it's ready for your own server, the Discord and the YouTube channel will be the first to know. Until then, the demo is open to everyone — come tell us what you think.
