Privacy Policy
Effective October 22, 2026
Ferret is a home inventory service run by Digital Empire, a business in Utah, USA ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use Ferret at ferret.digitalempire.us, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. The short version: your household's things are yours; we use them only to run Ferret for you; we never sell them or use them for advertising.
What we collect
Your account
- Your name and email address, and your password (stored only as a one-way hash), passkeys and two-step sign-in settings if you use them.
- Sign-ins: when, from which internet address and which browser or device — kept so you can see them in Settings → Security and so we can warn you about a sign-in from somewhere new.
Your household's inventory
- What you and the people in your household put into Ferret: things, places, photos, documents (receipts, manuals, warranties), notes, maintenance, loans, labels and the like.
- Photos and documents are encrypted at rest with a key for your household. We hold the keys — Ferret is hosted, not end-to-end encrypted — so the service can show, search and analyse them for you.
- What each person used each month (AI actions, barcode lookups, storage), to apply your plan's allowances and show them in Settings → Usage.
Billing
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe on its own pages and never reach our servers. We keep only what's needed to know your plan: Stripe's customer and subscription identifiers, the plan, its status and its dates.
Discord (optional)
If you link your Discord account to get the subscribers' role, we keep your Discord user ID and display name — nothing else, and no Discord login tokens.
This website
digitalempire.us uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without identifying you. The Ferret app uses only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in.
How we use it
- To run Ferret: store your inventory, search it, show it to the people in your household, send the reminders and emails you ask for, and keep the service secure.
- For AI features on plans that include them: a photo, document or question is sent to the AI models that read it (see below) and the answer comes back to you as suggestions. We don't use your content to train AI models, and neither do the providers we use for this.
- To bill you, apply your plan's limits, and contact you about your account (security alerts, billing, changes to Ferret, or files kept after a plan ends). We don't send marketing email unless you ask for it.
We never sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or look through your inventory except when you ask us to help with a problem, or when the law requires it.
Who helps us run Ferret
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting: the app, the database, your encrypted files, search, the AI models (Workers AI), sending email, and bot protection on sign-up (Turnstile). |
| Stripe | Payments, invoices and the billing portal. |
| Your browser's push service (Apple, Google or Mozilla) | Delivering reminders to your devices, if you switch them on. |
| Discord | Only if you link your account for the subscribers' role. |
| US Consumer Product Safety Commission | Recall checks: the brand names of things in Ferret are looked up in its public recall database — never your name or anything else about you. |
Each processes information only to provide its service to us. Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
Sharing inside your household and beyond
Everyone in a household can see that household's inventory, according to their role. If you make a share link (for an insurer, say), anyone with the link can see what it shows until it expires or you turn it off. Lending reminders send the borrower an email with a link about that one thing.
How long we keep it
- Your inventory, for as long as your household uses Ferret. Things you delete stay in Recently deleted for 30 days, then are removed for good.
- Free households nobody has used for 3 months (12 months if they ever paid) are deleted, after emails to their owners a month and a week before (each with a one-click link to keep it). Accounts left in no household are deleted with them.
- If a paid plan ends while your household holds more than 2 GB of files, everything is kept in full for 90 days; after that the originals of the oldest photos are replaced by small copies until it's under 2 GB (see Refunds and Cancellations).
- Backups of the database are kept for up to 30 days, so deleted information can remain in them for that long.
- Billing records are kept as long as tax law requires.
Your choices and rights
- See and take everything: Settings → Household → Download everything gives you all your household's information and original files, any time.
- Correct anything in Ferret yourself, or ask us.
- Delete your household (Settings → Household, its owner) or your account (Settings → Security) yourself, any time — it's removed straight away with its files and search index. If it's the only household you're in, your account goes with it in the same step. Or email us and we'll do it.
- Unlink Discord, switch off reminders, or remove the people you've invited, whenever you like.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or California) you may have further rights, such as to object to some uses or to complain to your data protection authority. Write to us and we'll help; we don't treat you differently for asking.
Children
Ferret isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. A household may of course list things that belong to its children.
Security
Encrypted connections, files encrypted at rest, hashed passwords, optional two-step sign-in and passkeys, alerts about new sign-ins, and a guard against password guessing. No system is perfectly secure; if something happens that affects your information, we'll tell you.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll email account owners before it takes effect. The date at the top says when it last changed.
